GUWAHATI: Minister for Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes, Government of Assam, Dr Ranoj Pegu, visited IIE Guwahati, Lalmati campus on Monday and reviewed the activities of Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY).
The review meeting was conducted in the presence of Dr Lalit Sharma, Director-IIE, Oswin Nampui, MD, Assam Plain Tribes Development Corporation (APTDC), Government of Assam, and senior officials of IIE and APTDC. A presentation on the activities since the inception of the Pradhan Mantri Van DhanYojana (PMVDY) in Assam was made covering a total of 302 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Clusters in operations till date.
While reviewing the project, the minister appreciated IIE, APTDC and WPT&BC – the resource, implementing and nodal agency of PMVDY respectively– for their endless effort for the sustainable livelihood generation of the tribal beneficiaries. He also suggested the resource agency, IIE to focus more on the business volume and smart marketing needs for sustainable livelihood of the beneficiaries and growth of the brand in the upcoming days. The minister also visited the TRISSAM outlet at the IIE campus and highly appreciated the branding and packaging of the products.
Pradhan Mantri Van DhanYojana (PMVDY) is a scheme exclusively developed for the forest dwellers collecting and processing naturally available forest produce for earning their livelihood. It is under the direct purview of the Ministry of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and aims for the sustainable livelihood generation of the tribal beneficiaries. The scheme is being implemented by APTDC with WPT&BC being the nodal agency. IIE has been engaged by the implementing agency as the resource agency for implementation, while TRIFED is the sponsoring agency for the project.
The scheme and the mission it aims to represent have been very fondly branded as 'TRISSAM - from the tribes of Assam, for the world to savour', under which the products that are being produced by the tribal beneficiaries are being marketed.
